There's a lack of weight of impact that hinders it, but the controls are okay and much better than the first. However, the sequel improves upon this A LOT, and the gameplay is much more tactical and balanced now. I mean, I'm sure the sprites are nice if it takes after castlevania, but the res mixing kills it for me.

This works in a shooter, but when adapted to the Castlevania format, the stages get very long and lack any minibosses to break things up. Komajou Densetsu II has very high production values for such a small doujin title, with a cast of professional voice actors, an animated opening and smooth sprite animation. Flight makes for easier evasion, but this meter can also be expended on attacks like dive kicks or a flurry of slashes so managing it effectively is critical to surviving later stages. Have some amazing promo art: It isn't long before Yukari appears and gives Sakuya a clue about where Remilia is and vanishes soon after.

Sakuya is agile and precise with her knifes, almost similar to Alucard. I haven't tried the demo yet, so I can't comment on the dennsetsu design, but that's just my two cents from the screens. Is this worth rebooting into Windows for if you don't have any particular interest in the Touhou characters or universe? But this energy is found far more frequently than in Castlevania, encouraging players to use their tools throughout the stage and switch them up for different situations.

Koumajou Densetsu II is stuck in a place where it needs to pay lip service to the two games that inspired it, but doing so constrains how creative it can be. The second game also builds around many of the concepts of the first, adds more sub-weapons in the form of partners and is supported by professional seiyuu voice actors.

It doesn't really play like a classicvania or metroidvania beyond base elements. The game is linear like its prequel though, so you can expect this game to be more along the lines of the older Castlevania games in terms of progression, rather than having an explorable and backtrackable castle.

However, the strongest aspect of the Touhou dendetsu gets adapted brilliantly — the boss fights.
